Who are we?

Team #6014, RC Roboteam, is the FIRST Robotics Competition team based out of Robert College of Istanbul. Robert College is 150-year-old institution, and it is also the oldest American school still in existence in its original location outside the United States. As the RC Roboteam, we believe that technology is the magic of the modern world, and the magicians of this century will be the ones who shape the future. Hence, our main purpose is to inspire and train the magicians of the future, by building science, engineering, and technology skills that inspire innovation while nourishing curiosity, creativity, perseverance, risk-taking, openness, self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

What is FIRST?

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology

FIRST  was founded in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.

FIRST is More Than Robots. FIRST participation is proven to encourage students to pursue education and careers in STEM-related fields, inspire them to become leaders and innovators, and enhance their 21 st century work-life skills.

What is FRC?

Combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. We call FIRST Robotics Competition the ultimate Sport for the Mind. High-school student participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have.” Under strict rules, limited resources, and an intense six-week time limit, teams of 20 or more students are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team. Each season ends with an exciting FIRST Championship.

FIRST Robotics Competition teams get to:

  • Learn from professional engineers
  • Master STEM skills
  • Learn and use sophisticated software, hardware, and power tools
  • Build and compete with a robot of their own design
  • Improve teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Compete and cooperate in alliances and tournaments
  • Understand and practice Gracious Professionalism™
  • Earn a place at the FIRST Championship
  • Qualify for $22+ million in college scholarships
